Hiring Process

The Spokane Valley Police Department (SVPD) has a rigorous hiring process that includes the following steps:

  • Initial Screening: Candidates must meet the basic requirements, including age, education, and driving record.
  • Written Exam: Candidates must pass a written exam that tests their cognitive abilities and knowledge of law enforcement.
  • Physical Agility Test: Candidates must pass a physical agility test that includes running, sit-ups, and push-ups.
  • Oral Board Interview: Candidates who pass the written and physical exams will be interviewed by an oral board.
  • Background Investigation: The SVPD will conduct a thorough background investigation on candidates who pass the oral board interview.
  • Psychological Evaluation: Candidates must pass a psychological evaluation to ensure they are mentally fit for duty.
  • Conditional Job Offer: Candidates who pass all of the screening processes will be given a conditional job offer.
  • Academy Training: Candidates who accept the conditional job offer must complete the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
