Missouri Defensive Coordinator Corey Batoon Leaving for South Alabama

Batoon to Take Over as Jaguars Defensive Coordinator

Move Comes After Successful Stint in Columbia

Missouri defensive coordinator Corey Batoon is leaving the Tigers to become the defensive coordinator at South Alabama, the school announced Monday. Batoon has been with Missouri since 2021, and he helped lead the Tigers to a 6-7 record and a berth in the Armed Forces Bowl this past season.

Batoon's departure is a significant loss for the Missouri defense, which ranked 11th in the SEC in scoring defense and 10th in total defense in 2022.

"We are grateful for Corey's contributions to our program and wish him all the best at South Alabama," Missouri head coach Eliah Drinkwitz said in a statement. "He is an excellent coach and a great person, and we will miss him."

Batoon is a rising star in the coaching ranks. He was a finalist for the Broyles Award, given to the nation's top assistant coach, in 2022.

South Alabama is getting a proven winner in Batoon. He has a track record of success at every stop in his coaching career.
